This week’s class – informal concert

This week we’ll spend the first half of the evening upstairs learning some basic arrangments of tunes from this term before coming down to the bar and sharing them in an informal concert, after which we’ll have a bit of a session.  Here is a file of the arrangements, for anyone who wants to try them out or print them beforehand.

For the following two weeks we’ll have guest tutors Beth Gifford (April 1st) and Dave Delarre (April 8th).  There will then be a break for Easter, with classes resuming on April 29th.

The End of Term, and an Informal Concert

Next week, December 10th, will be the last session of term and we’ll mark it with an informal concert and session at the Trade Union Club.  Please invite your friends and family – we’ll meet as usual at 7:15 for a quick rehearsal, and then play some tunes for our audience at 8.  After that we’ll retire downstairs for a session.  Rather than selling tickets, I suggest we take a collection at the end which will then go to a local charity for the homeless.  There may even be a raffle!  Hurrah!

Tunes to recap!

In preparation for our appearance at Ealing Country Dance Club, I’ve pulling some tunes out of the archive – I’ll recap these over the next couple of weeks, developing chord sequences, harmonies and the like.  In addition to the tunes we’ve learned this term, I’ve chosen:

Holborn March

Bagpiper’s

Lord Frog

and also Soldier’s Joy, which I’ll film and post later in the week.

More to come!

Guest tutors and half term breaks

On October 15th, special guest tutor Beth Gifford will take the class.  Beth is a fantastic viola player and singer and an experienced teacher, so this promises to be a great session!

The following week, October 22nd, there will be no class, as it’s half term.  Be good, and I’ll see you all on October 29th, perhaps with something extra spooky to play….

Folk happenings in Lewes

Ealing Sessions alumni Gill Adams has been in contact to let us know about events in Lewes in October.  She writes:

“Lewes folk festival is on the horizon, http://www.lewesfolkfest.org/LFFprogramme.php. It’s a little town festival and very nice, Oct 12/14 – in case you fancy mentioning it. We (Gill and Graham) are running a session in The Volunteer pub near Waitrose in the town on Sat Oct 13 (not The Lamb as stated in the prog). It would be nice to see some Londoners.”

New term, new website!

Welcome to the new website for the Ealing sessions Monday class! This is where we’ll post videos and sheet music for the tunes that we learn from September 2018. The old website will still be available here. I will probably tweak the format a little in the first few weeks, to make sure that everyone can find what they’re looking for.

This term will run from September 10th to December 10th, with a break for half term on October 22nd. At the moment, the plan is to play for the Ealing Country Dance Club in December 3rd, and I’m trying to sort out a date for doing a Christmas concert at Gunnersbury Park. Watch this space!
